Measuring impact - VSLA's in Uganda

Justine VSLA

VSLA's are having significant impact on the lives of Ugandans.  Here's Rachel Sekitooleto's story, a 31 year old mother from Ngogwe, Buikwe District.

Rachel is married with 8 children, 6 of whom are of school going age and are attending school. Both she and her husband belong to the VSLA network and have participated in the VSLA programme for four years.

From their three saving cycles, they have bought two cows which produce milk both for home consumption and for sale, provide medical care for her mother-in-law, and allowed the family to build a house for her mother-in-her. Rachel says being in a VSLA has made her more innovative and is helping her educate her six children. In the future, she plans to grow vanilla and open a retail shop.
