June 2012 marked the 20-year follow-up to the historic 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) - the Earth Summit 2012, or Rio +20 Conference on Sustainable Development and the Green Economy. This was the third international conference on sustainable development aimed at reconciling the economic and environmental goals of the global community.
CSI+ supported the African Development Bank and its partners organize over a dozen events at Rio+20 (June 13 – 22 2012) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Event presentations and discussions focused on the most sustainable means of instituting and implementing a green growth path in all African countries and noted the importance of adopting appropriate tools and instruments to effectively integrate green growth concepts and principles into existing development and sectoral plans.
CSI+ is now working towards the 18th annual Conference of Parties on Climate Change (to be held Nov 26 – Dec 7 2012 Doha, Qatar).
